Soil & Compost Mixtures

Screened Topsoil
We obtain our topsoil from various local tracts of land
that were formerly pastures and "bottom" land. The soil
is then processed on site using a machine that removes
the vast majority of sticks and rocks producing a very
rakeable quality material. We do add some organics (from
time-to-time) when the particular soil we are processing
requires it in order to produce a loam.

Plant Mix
Our Plant Mix is a special formulation developed with
the assistance of the Gwinnett County Extension in 1996.
It works so well we haven't changed it since. It
consists of screened topsoil and various composts
including our Mushroom Compost. The mixture is an
organic plant food and fertilizer that is ideal for
creating raised flowerbeds or planting vegetables. Just
pile it up, plant directly into it, and watch your
plants take off!

Mushroom Compost
This product is the planting medium used in modern
mushroom farming. It is a general organic fertilizer
used as an amendment to enrich the soil with nutrients
essential for improving root systems. Our mushroom
compost comes from one of the largest mushroom producers
in the country. www.quincycompost.com The product
consists of wheat straw, chicken litter, peat moss,
cottonseed hulls, limestone, feather meal and other
proprietary ingredients. The product is alkaline (7.8 to
8.6 pH).

Humus
This product is really a "finished" mushroom compost
with a basically neutral pH (6.5 to 7.5). "Finished"
means it is fully decomposed (broken down to a fine,
black, soil-like structure). Lab tests rate this product
from very good to excellent in NKP (ppm rates) and other
essential trace elements required for healthy plant
development. It has outstanding water absorption
quality, permitting absorption of 80% of its weight (by
contrast clay allows only about 15%). Humus is a premium
soil amendment used in preparing holes for planting
vegetable gardens, ornamental shrubbery and flowerbeds
or as a topdressing when seeding or sodding your lawn.

Compost Mix (No Soil)
Compost Mix is a 100% compost product (THERE IS NO SOIL
IN THIS MIX). It is a mixture of humus and mushroom
compost and is a slightly alkaline plant food and
fertilizer that is ideal for tilling into the soil for
flowerbeds or vegetable garden plots. It does not
contain topsoil and should be liberally tilled into the
soil (ideally 50/50). Many garden growers also use it as
top dressing mulch.
